Whangarei Cat Rescue

  • From eating rubbish to a warm home

      11 January 2022
    Main image

This kitten was finally caught and surrendered to us by someone who said her mum was hit by a car 3 weeks ago and she was found eating out of the rubbish.

She is very weak, has diarrhoea and not eating much, so needs sub-cut fluids with dextrose every 8 hours. And we may need to take bloods and faeces sampling which all adds up.

Her recovery costs more than the usual kitten rescue situation and if you could donate even a few dollars, it all helps our charity with the medical bills.

  • Puriri needed an operation after all

Puriri's eye looked all promising and healing nicely. Then on Monday we realised that he didn't open it anymore so off to surgery to have the eye removed. Because this costs more than the usual kitten rescue situation, if you could donate even a few dollars, it all helps our charity with the medical bills.

This fella arrived yesterday and saw the ladies of Mill Road Vet today. We needed to know exactly what is going on with his eye aaaaaaand they hadn't seen anything like it before!

He has some kind of tumour type on his actual eyeball 😮

❤ If you would like to donate a couple bucks toward his medical care and eye removal surgery that would be very much appreciated.

Bunny’s isolation time has come to an end with no signs of ringworm and has remained in good health. Bunny has now moved to another foster home to be able to play and be a kitten before being desexed and going up for adoption. Bunny is a bright energetic little girl.

  • Bunny needs love and attention

      18 April 2021
    Main image

We are not 100 percent on gender yet, but poor Bunny has cat flu, snuffly, a little trouble breathing underweight, only eating little bits at a time.

So Bunny is going to need some love and care and no doubt more Vet visits. As Bunny’s recovery costs more than the usual kitten rescue situation if you could donate even a few dollars, it all helps our charity with the medical bills.

Born with no Achilles’ tendon, and picking up herpes virus as well, Gingerbread hasn't had it easy!

Thankfully he has put on 60% body weight in just two weeks, and looks like he'll be recovering completely soon 🙌

If you would like to donate a dollar or two to our rescue for Gingerbread he would love you!

  • Gingerbread needs help with his eyes!

      26 March 2021
    Main image

He has been cleared on the leg as the vet thinks he was born with no Achilles’ tendon, it shouldn’t be a issue for him at all as he uses it fine considering, and in no pain.

As for his eyes he’s on a 2 week course of antibiotics for something called herpes virus; the vet said these meds should clear him up as his eyes have healed heaps since last visit and he put on 60% body weight in 2 weeks.

If you could donate even a few dollars, it all helps our charity with the medical bills.

  • Gingerbread needs our help

      9 March 2021
    Main image

He came to us as a trap, desex and release. He’s about 12-14 weeks old but we could not release him, he had too much potential and was too small. He must have been dumped because he is the most cuddly little boy! He does not ever stop purring! He came to us with mild cat flu, his eyes were gunky, after a few days of eye cleans and vitamins he perked up, he was gaining weight fast. When he started getting up and walking around more, we noticed he was walking funny, so off to the Vet. We are spending the next 2 weeks beefing him up, as he was slightly malnourished hopefully now he’s up and about he will strengthen his leg and it will heal on his own. If not we will be going back to find the cause! Vet thinks he’s had trauma to his leg from being dumped and scared. So until then he’s happy, well fed and content!

If you could donate even a few dollars, it all helps our charity with the medical bills.
